Conference on Abbot Galletti

We are delighted to invite you to a conference on Saturday, November 25th at 10 AM, focusing on the fascinating character of Abbé Galletti, presented by the historian Michel Casta, honorary lecturer.

Should we believe Abbé Galletti when he writes, "My life has passed in retreat and obscurity"? On the contrary, his fame and renown lie in a unique literary work: "L'Histoire illustrée de la Corse," published in 1863. It is still frequently cited today, particularly for its description of the island and its inhabitants, as well as for its illustrations.

But who was Jean-Ange Galletti really? Beyond the renowned writer, discover the unconventional journey of this multi-faceted man: farmer, priest, drawing teacher, archaeological explorer, poet, and polemicist. His love for Corsica, his attachment to historical monuments, his curiosity about island life, and his devotion to the Napoleonic dynasty make him an indispensable figure in Corsican history.
