Conference on Testa Mora

During the Canonica Fiera, xe are delighted to invite you on Saturday, May, 23 at 4:00 p.m., free admission, for a conference on “Saint Maurice, Black and Egyptian saint martyred in 303, symbol of the Testa Mora emblematic of the Corsican flag?”, by Michel Vergé-Franceschi, emeritus professor of modern history of exceptional class.

Where does the Moor’s head, at the origin of the Bandera, come from? Our distinguished speaker, author of numerous major works, presents the history of this characteristic symbol of our island, drawing on its earliest appearances, its variations, and its political uses. How Saint Maurice, from Egypt, became a leader of the Holy Roman Empire and then arrived in Corsica through Theodore of Neuhoff, fleeting King of Corsica, before being embraced by Pasquale Paoli and respected by Louis XV himself. A lecture that promises to be as surprising as it is fascinating!
